Engaging women and girls in STEM fields while fostering success in clean energy careers.
The purpose of the She’s in Power mentoring program is to engage women and girls ages 13 to 99 in activities that expose them to role models in the clean energy workforce in Colorado. The intent is to nurture interest in the STEM (science-technology-engineering-math) fields among females across diverse backgrounds and age groups while encouraging retention of females in clean energy jobs. Globally and nationally, fewer women are employed in STEM-related fields and in Colorado the same holds true. Colorado is home to numerous clean energy companies and the She’s in Power program aims to help women and girls build skills and networks that can enable them to become productive contributors to the clean energy workforce in our state.
She’s in Power project goals:
- Increase the number and standing of women in the local clean energy workforce
- Develop strong relationships among potential employees and employers to share information about clean energy job roles and career paths
- Encourage work-life balance strategies that lead to success in the local clean energy workforce
- Foster clean energy career-building among females of any age including women who are transitioning from this to that, whatever this and that may be
In the She’s in Power program, a cohort of women and girls move through a structured set of activities over several months. An orientation session introduces the cohort to the program and to each other and a final celebration at the end solidifies mentee progress as well as relationships among participants. In between, the cohort engages in workshops, worksite visits, invited speaker sessions, and speed mentoring.
